HAYWARD - The Humboldt State softball team seems to be on repeat mode. Unfortunately, it is not in same the direction as the 2008 National Championship team. The Jacks dropped games one and two in the four game series against Cal State East Bay on Friday, 4-1 and 11-3.
Humboldt drops into eighth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a record of 10-11 (5-9, CCAA) while CSUEB moved ahead of the Jacks with the wins 10-12 (6-10, CCAA).
Humboldt State - 1 Cal State East Bay - 4
Jessica George held the Pioneers hit less until the fourth inning while the Jacks had put one on the board in the third off a Geneva Perrine double, who later scored.
But George, who picked up the loss for Humboldt, would only continue to struggle in the circle. She allowed six hits and four runs in the fifth. The Pioneer's earned six of the eight hits in the fifth inning alone, which was enough to defeat the visiting Jacks.
Kelly Lowe earned the win for the Pioneers and allowed Humboldt just four hits in the first contest.
Humboldt State - 3 Cal State East Bay - 11
A Pioneer dominating second inning and a rotation of three pitchers led CSUEB over the Jacks, again, in game two (11-3). The Pioneers were able to end the contest after just five innings due to the mercy rule of an eight run difference.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning but the Pioneers got it rolling in the second after the Jacks had put up the first three runs.
Seven runs off of just three hits made it difficult for Humboldt to overcome after the Pioneer's continued to pile on the runs, adding two in the fourth.
Humboldt was held to just one additional hit. The Jacks were led offensively in game two by Nikki Kettingham (1-3),
Kirsten Nouzovsky (1-2), Ally Blenis (1-1) and Courtney Hiatt (1-2).
The Lumberjacks will look for redemption in the second half of the match-up on Saturday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
