ARCATA — The Humboldt State softball team will eagerly leave the rain at home when they travel to Turlock for the Tournament of Champions this weekend. The Jacks will be part of a 22-team tournament hosted by Cal State Stanislaus. The TOC, presented by Mizuno, begins on Friday with tournament games being played at Pedretti Sports Complex and Warrior Softball Field.

The meeting between the Lumberjacks and Dixie State will be the third for the two programs. The two met earlier in the season at the Desert Stinger Tournament and the Jacks lost for the second consecutive time, 9-1… HSU and Western Washington have met 49 times with the Lumberjacks taking 38 games. In the 2010 TOC, HSU defeated the Vikings 6-5. That was the last time the sides squared off…. Chaminade has won just two times in the 21 meetings between the schools… In six meetings between HSU and University of Hawai'i Hilo, the Jacks hold a 4-2 advantage. The Jacks and Vulcans most recently met in the 2011 season with Lumberjack victories in a doubleheader duel…The Jacks hold a 49-4 lead in the series with Central Washington. The last meeting was in the 2011 Desert Stinger Tournament with CWU coming out on the winning end of a 10-11 decision.

The Jacks fall to ninth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings with just a month of play left in the conference season…The HSU offense is led by Chrissy Stalf (.447 BA 38 H, 9 2B,11 HR 31 RBI) and Felicia Viveiros (.424 BA, 32 H, 6 2B, 4 HR, 22 RBI). With 31 RBI, Stalf is the team's top run producer followed by Kirsten Nouzovsky (22) and Viveiros (22)… In the circle, Vaneza Hoover has a 5.79 ERA. Hoover has a 5-3 record in 14 appearances and 11 starts. Hoover has pitched 58.0 innings and allowed 69 hits while striking out 48 batters… As a team, the Jacks are hitting .313 (second in the CCAA), the team ERA is 6.04 (tenth in the CCAA) and the fielding percentage is .960 (eighth in the CCAA).
