Softball drops two on final day

LA JOLLA - The Humboldt State softball team dropped the final two games in the double header match-up on Saturday afternoon.  The Jacks, who took just one of the four  games, fell short of the Tritons 12-2 and 12-8.  

Humboldt 10-9 (5-7, CCAA) dropped to seventh place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings while UC San Diego 19-3 (13-2, CCAA)  advanced to first.

The Triton pitching hushed the Humboldt bats in game one.  The Jacks were allowed just five hits and were held to the mercy rule after five innings. 

The Tritons came out strong from the beginning.  The host put up 7 runs off of just four hits in first inning and made it hard for the Jacks to play catch-up. 

Vaneza Hoover (4-3) earned the loss for the Jacks.  Hoover allowed 12 hits and 10 runs in the 3.0 inning span.

The Triton ace, Camille Gaito, finished the job for UC San Diego in game two.

Humboldt was allowed more hits in the second attempt but could not surpass the Triton dominance. 

The Jacks were led offensively Felicia Vivieros (3-4), Nikki Ketteringham (1-3), Kirsten Nouzovsky (1-3), and Chrissy Stalf (1-3) but trailed the entire game. 

Jessica George (3-3) picked up the loss for the Jacks in the circle.  George allowed 11 hits and 12 runs in the 6.0 innnings she was in control.
