ARCATA — Problematic pitching and a top ranked team got the best of Humboldt State softball this past weekend. The Jacks will look to bounce back when they travel to Hayward.  Humboldt will face Cal State East Bay on Friday at 12 p.m. and again on Saturday at 11 a.m.  Both games are doubleheaders.

The Jacks lead Cal State East bay 70-25 in the all-time series … HSU took all four games of the series from the Pioneers in the 2010 season.


Lumberjacks Notes
The Jacks are in seventh place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings just three weeks into the conference season after a disappointing series with UC San Diego… The HSU offense is led by Felicia Vivieros (.439 BA 25 H, 3 2B, 3 HR 20 RBI) and Chrissy Stalf (.424 BA, 28 H, 2 2B, 6 HR, 20 RBI).   With 20 RBI, Vivieros and Stalf are the team's top run producers followed by Kirsten Nouzovsky (18)… In the circle, Vaneza Hoover and Jessica George both have a 5.92 ERA.  Hoover has a 4-3 record in 12 appearances and 10 starts.  Hoover has pitched 52.0 innings and allowed 62 hits while striking out 44 batters.  George has 3-3 record with 9 appearances and six starts.  George has pitched 39 innings and allowed 53 hits while striking out just 14… As a team, the Jacks are hitting .304 (first in the CCAA), the team ERA is 6.06 (tenth in the CCAA) and the fielding percentage is .958 (ninth in the CCAA).

Cal State East Bay
The Pioneers (7-9, 4-8 CCAA) stand in eighth place of the early standings in the CCAA.  Last week, Cal State Stanislaus took all four from Cal State East Bay… The offense is led by Kassandra Winger (.316 BA, 12 H, 3 2B, 1 HR)… In the circle, Kelly Lowe has an 2.92 ERA with a 2-3 record in eight appearances and seven starts.  Lowe has pitched 36.0 innings and has struck out 28 batters.
