Hot hitting lifts Jacks past Otters

ARCATA - Five home runs, fourteen hits, and 11 runs put the Jacks in the win column after game one of Monday's match-up against Cal State Monterey Bay.  Humboldt outscored the Otters 11-8 after a combined 21 hits from the two clubs.  Game two was suspended in the top of the sixth due to light and will resume at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at the HSU field.  The Jacks lead game two through five innings, 12-8.

Humboldt advances to 20-19 (8-13, CCAA) while the Otters fall 20-24 (13-15, CCAA).

CSUMB came out strong to start the day, putting up five runs on just three hits in the first inning.  Jackie Serna's three-run homer put the Otters up early.

The Jacks answered in the bottom of the first with a three-run bomb from Felicia Viveiros and solo home run by Kirsten Nouzovsky.  Humboldt took a two-run lead, 7-5, in the second on three hits from Geneva Perrine, Viveiros, and Courtney Hiatt.

The hitting war continued.  The Otters added a run in the third and two in the fourth to claim a one-run lead but it would not hold for long.

Humboldt's four-run sixth inning sealed the deal in the Lumberjack victory. A Chrissy Stalf, Nouzovsky, and Hiatt two-run homer carried the Jacks.

Vaneza Hoover picked up the win (10-6) for Humboldt.  Hoover started the game for Humboldt in the circle and re-entered to face one batter in the sixth and completed the game.

The Jacks lead the Otters in game two, 12-8.  Game two coverage will be included in tomorrow's release.
