SAN FRANCISCO - Anyone who looks at
Chrissy Stalf can see she is an athletic masterpiece with a glove. The 6-0 sophomore added another accomplishment to her resume in game one on Saturday when she tied Humboldt's single-season home run record (15), which was set in 1999 by Taiisha Pleasant. Stalf also tied the California Collegiate Athletic Association record (15), set by Cal State Monterey Bay's Shae Olds in 2009. Stalf's bomb came in the first inning of her first at-bat which put the Jacks ahead early in the morning match-up.
The Jacks took three of four from San Francisco State but could not close out the sweep in the fourth and final game on the road. Humboldt defeated the Gators in the morning game, 4-3, but fell to the host in the afternoon, 6-1.
Humboldt moved up in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings to seventh place with a 23-21 (11-15) record while the Gators remained in last with a 15-30 (8-22) record.
Kirsten Nouzovsky supported Stalf in the third inning with a solo homer to left field.
The Gators were hit less until the third but added one run off of two hits with Humboldt's Vaneza Hoover in the circle.
SFSU pitching in the fifth inning granted the Jacks two runs off of just one hit. The Gators walked four Lumberjacks while just allowing the one hit.
A Gator offensive surge came in the seventh when they put up four hits and two runs. SFSU was just one run shy of forcing extra innings.
Game two was in the control of SFSU but Stalf continued to shine with the bat, going 2-3.
Jessica George (6-11) earned the loss for the Jacks in the circle. George allowed seven hits and four runs in just 3.2 innings before being replaced by Kristina Lewis. Lewis gave up four hits and two runs. Both George and Lewis each struck out just three Gator batters.
Humboldt could not get the bats as hot in the afternoon match-up. The Gators allowed just five Humboldt hits which came from Stalf (2-3), Nouzovsky (1-3), Felicia Viveiros (1-3) and Ally Blenis (1-3).
The Lumberjacks will return to the HSU Field on Thursday when they host Cal State San Bernardino for the last home series of the 2011 season.
