Jacks end 2011 home season with loss

ARCATA - A combination of last game jitters, tears, and Cal State San Bernardino pitching got the best of the Lumberjacks on Saturday morning.  Humboldt fell in a non-conference, fifth-game, to wrap-up the 2011 home season, 11-2.

With the loss, the Jacks fall to 27-24(17-18, CCAA).  Humboldt took three of four from the visiting Coyotes on Thursday and Friday to close out the California Collegiate Athletic Association season.

Humboldt exhausted all of their pitchers in the early morning duel, but starter Vaneza Hoover picked up the loss for the Jacks.  Hoover allowed four hits and four runs during her time in the circle.  Hoover was replaced by senior, Kristina Lewis in the third inning and reentered the game in the fifth.  Jessica George then took control in the fifth with two outs.  George was replaced by Jennifer Sizemore in the sixth, who allowed a three-run homer against her first batter.

Trouble in the circle and quiet Humboldt bats was the result of the Coyote victory.  The Jacks saw hope in the third inning with two on and no outs but a quick Coyote triple-play quickly sent the Jacks to defense.

Humboldt saw another glimpse of redemption in the fourth inning.  The Jacks managed to rally back with a Geneva Perrine double to start the inning.  Chrissy Stalf reached first on an error by the shortstop, moving Perrine to third.  Felicia Viveiros walked to first, loading the bases.  Kirsten Nouzovsky's double scored two, placing Tonya Walker (pinch runner) on third.  Walker tried to steal home on a passed ball opportunity but was called out at the plate.  Sarah Fox's and Courtney Hiatt's fly outs to left field ended the inning with the Jacks still trailing by one.

The Coyotes charged forward even harder.  The visiting squad added four in the fifth and the sixth to mercy rule (eight-run rule) Humboldt.
