Quick turn around for rematch with Broncos

ARCATA — It might seem like the Humboldt State Lumberjacks just played Cal Poly Pomona, because they did. Just two weeks will have passed between the two legs of the series as HSU heads to Bronco territory for part two on Saturday.

"It's always difficult playing your travel partner with a quick turnaround," said head coach Joddie Gleason. "It's a challenge, but it's the nature of our conference. I think having beaten them at home will provide extra motivation for them at their home so we have to be prepared for a battle."

The California Collegiate Athletic Association match will tip off at 6:30 p.m. in Pomona and will be the last road trip the Jacks will take for the 2012 year.

Head-to-Head
The last time these two teams faced each other, Humboldt State came away with a tight 48-45 victory over the Broncos. The win marked the Jacks' first win over Cal Poly Pomona since Feb. 11, 2010, and gave HSU a slight lead in the all-time series at 7-6.

Last year on the road, CPP avenged a close 83-79 overtime victory at Lumberjack Arena by beating the Jacks 75-59 at the Broncos' home court.

Gleason Gabs
"Last time we played CPP, they played a lot of zone against us. It was probably only our second game against a zone defense. It's an area we've improved the most on and we'll need to recognize their defense and execute our offense effectively against them. ... We need to remain confident in our shots. As long as we're getting good looks, we'll get our confidence back. That's the first thing that happens in shooting slumps, you lose your confidence. We have good shooters so we just need to regain our confidence. ... We'll reevaluate our game film against them and come up with a game plan, but we're still more worried about ourselves. We'll continue to get better and work on some stuff at practice so we can be ready to take on a tough Cal Poly Pomona team at [their] home."
