ARCATA — Any chance at a postseason berth hangs in the balance in the last six games for the Humboldt State women's basketball team. The Lumberjacks are two games back of the eighth and final qualifying spot for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament.
The first test comes this week when HSU returns home to face Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday night and Cal State East Bay on Saturday. Both games are in Lumberjack Arena and will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
The Lumberjacks (5-11 CCAA, 9-13 overall) have to catch either San Francisco State (7-9 CCAA) or Cal St. San Bernardino (7-9 CCAA), and climb over Cal St. Dominguez Hills (6-10 CCAA), to get to that eighth tournament spot.
Cal St. Monterey (12-4 CCAA, 15-4) and Cal St. East Bay (9-7 CCAA, 11-9) are both playing well. The Otters beat both Cal State L.A. (64-52) and Cal St. Dominguez Hills (62-46) last weekend, and the Pioneers have won five in a row, including a 45-39 win over Cal St. Monterey.
Head-to-Head
Humboldt leads the all-time series 10-6 against Cal St. Monterey Bay. Earlier this season the Otters won in Seaside (59-49). The Otters have won four of the last five games played against HSU.
Cal St. East Bay leads the all-time series 30-26. Earlier this season the Pioneers won 66-54 in Hayward. Last year the Jacks split with East Bay, winning in Hayward (66-44) and losing in Lumberjack Arena (57-52).
