ARCATA, Calif. – The new-look Lumberjacks were on full display Thursday night. Humboldt State's deep and experienced women's basketball team soared past the Simpson University, 95-55, in an exhibition matchup.
 
HSU scored the game's first eight points and 12 of the first 13 over the opening 5:42 and never looked back. The Jacks outscored the Red Hawks by 20 points in each half.
 
"I felt like we did what we were supposed to do in an exhibition game. We did things well, and what we aren't doing well we will work on," said HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason. "We are pretty deep. We played a lot of people and were able to stay fresh."
 
HSU showed its depth as it saw all 15 players score in the contest. Jae Shin and Neika Puryear paced the team with 13 points apiece as both Jack players hit five-of-eight attempts from the floor.
 
"On our team, it doesn't matter who scores as long as HSU gets the 'W' in the end," said Gleason.
 
Forward A'Jaee Foster posted the game's lone double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Nikki Powell had a solid night with seven points and eight rebounds. Megan Shields added seven points and seven rebounds, while Sumayyah Wiggins chipped in eight points and six boards.
 
Kersey Wilcox handed out seven assists and scored eight points in the backcourt.
 
The Jacks won the battle on the boards by a 55-28 margin and connected for 12 3-pointers.
 
Simpson's Esther Wofford hit a game-high 26 points for the visitors.
 
HSU faces its Alumni in a scrimmage next Saturday, Nov. 8, in Lumberjack Arena. The scrimmage will start at 5:30 p.m.
