Falcons Clip Jacks in Overtime

SEATTLE, Wash. – After tying the game in the final seconds of regulation, Seattle Pacific's overtime execution was enough to clip Humboldt State women's basketball, 83-74, Saturday on the second day of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic.

After Kersey Wilcox buried two HSU (1-1) free throws, Seattle Pacific's Maddey Pflaumer answered with her own pair with eight seconds left to deadlock the contest and send it to overtime, 67-67. The Falcons (2-0) made 11-of-12 overtime free throws and held the Jacks to 2-of-10 shooting from the floor.

"We suffered a heartbreaking loss tonight to a very good Seattle Pacific team," said HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason. "Seattle Pacific executed down the stretch at both ends of the court and we did not. I tip my hat to them."

For HSU, A'Jaee Foster and Wilcox were named to the All-Tournament Team with their play. Both Jacks netted double figures in the each contest and recorded double-doubles on Friday.

On Saturday, Foster led the HSU attack with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting and 6-of-6 free throws. She also grabbed six rebounds. Wilcox chipped in 11 points on 4-of-7 attempts with three boards and three assists.

Jae Shin was the third HSU double-figure contributor with 11 points, nine coming in the opening 20 minutes.

Nikki Powell produced eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Megan Shields added six points, five rebounds and three blocks.

"We had an opportunity to win in regulation and didn't get the defensive rebound at the three-minute mark, which resulted in a (Seattle Pacific) made 3-pointer," said Gleason. "Kersey answered with a bucket, but then we had two consecutive defensive breakdowns resulting in scoring opportunities for them."

Leading 63-57 after a Foster layup with 3:14 remaining, Seattle Pacific missed three shots in one trip, but pulled down each offensive rebound. On the fourth attempt, Aubree Callen did not miss to cut the deficit to 63-60 at 1:54.

The Falcons outscored the Jacks, 7-4, in the final 1:50 of the contest to send the game into overtime, 67-67.

In the extra period tied at 70, Seattle Pacific converted an HSU turnover into a 3-pointer by Suzanna Ohlsen to start a 10-1 game-deciding run. A Dani Gaumer 3-pointer stopped the home run with 24 seconds left, but it was not enough for HSU as it fell, 83-74.

The Jacks trailed by as many as seven, 19-12, midway through the first half. The visitors rallied to outscore Seattle Pacific, 13-6, in the final four minutes for a 32-31 halftime lead.

The Falcons put all five starters in double figures. Ohlsen topped Seattle Pacific's players with 20 points and five assists.

HSU continues its three opening road games against Great Northwest Athletic Conference foes next Saturday, November 22. The Jacks travel to play the Wolves of Western Oregon in a 2 p.m. tip.
