ARCATA, Calif. -- Humboldt State men's basketball rebounded from Saturday's conference loss with a non-conference blow out Sunday at Lumberjack Arena. The Lumberjacks trounced the visiting Bobcats of UC Merced 113-58.
HSU led by nine, 43-34, at the half, but dominated UC Merced after the break as it outscored the visitors 70-24.
Freshman
Calvin Young II led the Jacks (3-1) in the first half and scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. HSU connected on 56 percent of its shots in the opening half and caused 18 UC Merced turnovers.
The Jacks turned up their intensity on both the offensive and defensive ends in the second half. HSU outscored UC Merced 46-8 in the first 12 minutes of the period and its pressing defense caused numerous miscues.
Senior
Harold Perry scored 16 of his team-leading 22 points in the final 20 minutes of action. He finished the game 9-for-11 shooting and 2-for-2 from outside the arc and at the free throw line.
The Green and Gold's ball movement was dazzling Sunday as it compiled 30 assists. Senior
Allan Guei dished out a team-high 10 assists and junior
Andrew Cones added eight.
HSU outrebounded UC Merced, 47-31, in the landslide win. Young was the Jacks' top rebounder and finished with 12 boards to go with his 18 points.
Joshua Kimble was the Bobcats' (0-10) leading scorer with 23 points.
The Jacks travel to Cal State San Bernardino for a California Collegiate Athletic Association rematch Saturday, Nov. 29. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
