HSU claimed a 71-59 victory last Nov. 17 in the fourth game of the season played at the Academy of Art. The Jacks also prevailed, 76-51, on Nov. 11, 2011 in the last series meeting played in Arcata. 
HSU holds a 10-2 advantage in the 12 meetings and Head Coach 
Joddie Gleason is 4-0 against Dominican. The Penguins' last series win came in a 70-65 victory in the 2002-03 season. HSU is 7-1 versus Dominican in Arcata. 
HUMBOLDT STATE GAME NOTESGLEASON ADDS TO HER HOME-OPENING RECORD Head Coach 
Joddie Gleason improved her home-opening HSU record to 9-2 after her team defeated Hope International, 87-71, Tuesday night. 
EARLY RUN AND SCORING BALANCE LEADS TO VICTORYHSU ran out to an early 12-point lead and used a balanced attack to post an 87-71 women's basketball victory over Hope International Tuesday night. 
The Lumberjacks (3-1) scored the first five points and raced to a 23-8 advantage in the opening 12 minutes of play. HSU led by as many as 26 points early in the second half, but NAIA-ranked Hope International battled to within 10 points with two minutes left. The Jacks hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final three minutes to seal the 16-point victory, 87-71. 
Five players on Gleason's unselfish team scored 10 or more points and they handed out 19 assists on 25 baskets. For the second time in as many games, 
Megan Shields paced the offense with 18 points on 5-for-11 shooting including a career-high three 3-pointers. She also grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots. 
A'Jaee Foster connected on 5-of-8 tries for 14 points, pulled down eight boards and handed out four assists. 
Nikki Powell added 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor on the inside. 
At the guards, 
Jae Shin and 
Kersey Wilcox chipped in 12 points apiece. Shin downed three treys and Wilcox had four assists. Dani Gaumer had a solid all-around game with six points, eight rebounds (seven defensive) and two assists. 
RECEIVE VOTES IN USA TODAY DII TOP 25HSU received nine votes in latest USA TODAY DII Top 25 poll released Tuesday. The Jacks were one of four California Collegiate Athletic Association squads to earn votes – No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona (237), Cal State Dominguez Hills (19) and Cal State San Bernardino (12). HSU's opening two opponents – Seattle Pacific (62) and Western Washington (10) – also earned consideration votes.
FINDING THE BASKET & PUTTING UP THE POINTSThrough the opening four games, HSU is averaging an impressive 82.2 points per game. The Jacks posted a season-high 98 points against Western Washington to start the season and hit a low of 70 points last Saturday at Western Oregon. 
HSU also downed 34 treys (34-for-83/41.0%) in the four contests for an average of 8.5 made per night. Shooting guard Shin alone has 13 3-pointers in 26 attempts. The Jacks have five players with at least three 3-pointers made and eight players with at least one trey hit. 
DOMINICAN GAME NOTESLaKOSE TAKES OVER PENGUINSTim LaKose took the reigns of the Dominican University program in May. He has 371 career wins over 20 years of coaching. LaKose was named the 2011-12 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year during his two seasons directing San Jose State. 
WINNERS OF PAST TWODominican goes into the HSU matchup winners of its last two games. On Tuesday, Dominican posted a 71-60 victory at CCAA member Sonoma State, after it recorded a home win, 69-44, over UC Merced last Saturday. 
Against Sonoma State, Dominican hit five 3-pointers and took a 41-25 lead into the half. The Penguins held off the Seawolves in the second half for the win, 71-60. 
Carly Holboke downed four treys and a team-high 18 points. Alyssa Weatherd made 7-of-10 attempts for 17 points and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. 
FOURTH CCAA OPPONENTIn its fifth game of the season, Dominican faces its fourth CCAA opponent in HSU. The Penguins are 1-2 over the first three. Dominican dropped its first two season contests at Chico State (68-54) and against Cal State East Bay (90-73), before the win at Sonoma State.
DOUBLE FIGURE PENGUIN TRIODominican receives over 57 percent of its offense from three players – Weatherd, Sarah Nelson and Holboke. The three Penguins each average in double figures – Weatherd (14.8 ppg) and Nelson and Holboke both at 11.8 ppg. Nelson also grabs 11.3 rebounds and Holboke has 10 3-pointers.
