SEARCH FOR BETTER CCAA ROAD SUCCESS

The Jacks will search for better CCAA road success in their first road game of the year this week. In the last eight league seasons, HSU (2-6) won only two times in its opening road games.

HSU split its last two CCAA road openers. Cal Poly Pomona held home court advantage with a 70-65 win last Dec. 14, 2013. The Jacks posted a 72-56 victory at Cal State Stanislaus (Nov. 30, 2012) two seasons ago.

For the first time in eight years, HSU opens its CCAA docket on the road. The last CCAA road opener was an 80-69 defeat at Cal State Los Angeles on Nov. 30, 2007.

AIM TO MOVE OVER .500 IN OVERALL CCAA OPENERS

The Jacks aim to move over the .500 mark in league-opening contests this weekend.

Overall in its eight CCAA seasons, HSU has an even 4-4 record in CCAA opening games. Last December 5, UC San Diego posted a 71-63 win over HSU in Arcata. HSU defeated Cal Poly Pomona (48-45) on Nov. 24, 2012 the previous season.

RUN OUT OF THE PRESEASON GATE

For the fifth time in the past decade, HSU ran out to a strong season start. The Jacks recorded a 4-1preseason non-conference mark over the opening month of the 2014-15 season.

HSU's 4-1 record marks the fifth time in 10 seasons, it opened with at least four wins in its first five games. The Jacks' last accomplished a 4-1 start in the 2011-12 season. HSU started 9-1 that season and finished 19-8 overall.

COACH GLEASON ON THIS WEEK AND PRESEASON RESULTS:

"We are fired up to start CCAA action. I am happy with how our preseason went and for our trip this weekend to the Bay Area."

RECEIVE FIVE MORE VOTES IN USA TODAY DII TOP 25

HSU received five more votes in latest USA TODAY DII Top 25 poll released Tuesday. The Jacks' votes increased from nine to 14 this week and they were one of four CCAA squads to earn votes – No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona (137), CSU San Bernardino (44) and Cal St. East Bay (2).

SHIN DRAINS EIGHT TREYS, TIED HSU RECORD

Last Saturday, senior Jae Shin showed why she is one of NCAA DII's best 3-point shooters. The guard drained an HSU single-game record tying eight 3-pointers and finished with 26 points in the win over Dominican.

The South Korea native stands fifth in Division II and leads the CCAA with 4.2 3FG/gm. She is also second in the league with a 53.8 percent 3-point percentage (21 of 39). Shin has at least 11 points in each of HSU's five games and leads the squad with a 15.2-point average, sixth best in the CCAA.

FOSTER POSTS SECOND DOUBLE-DOUBLE

Joining center Megan Shields, A'Jaee Foster has provided a second inside scoring and rebounding Jacks' threat. Foster posted her second double-double of the season last Saturday. Against Dominican, the forward netted 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Foster had her first double-double of 13 points and 11 boards in the season-opening win over No. 21 Western Washington.

The junior averages 13.4 ppg and 9.0 rpg, fourth in the CCAA.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD

HSU has lit up the scoreboard more than any other CCAA over the first month of the season.

The Jacks lead the CCAA with an 84.0-point per game average – 6.3 points per game better than Cal Poly Pomona's 78.3-point average. HSU has reached 90-plus points twice and 98 points against nationally-ranked Western Washington in the season opener.
