Box Score 2 CARSON – In the rematch of last season's Super Regional matchup, No. 6-ranked Humboldt State claimed rounds one and two on Friday.
The Lumberjacks powered seven home runs and saw
Liz Perez fire a game two three-hitter to claim the twinbill sweep, 7-4 and 9-1, over the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills.
"Two good games today. We came out and hit the ball like we are capable," explained HSU head coach
Shelli Sarchett. "Our pitchers threw two good games and we took advantage of the opportunities that were given to us both offensively and defensively."
At the plate, HSU's
Tiffany Hollingsworth continued her hot streak with six hits to take her hit streak to 11 games. The freshman lined three doubles and a pair of home runs for a four RBI afternoon.
Julie Pena added a round-tripper in each contest with five RBIs.
Game 1
After a scoreless first inning,
Hannah Williams lined a single and
Dani Randall followed with a double. The two Jacks would not stay on the bases long as
Sarah Fox slashed a two-run double for the game's first scores. Pena stepped to the plate and belted a two-run homer to center field to make it a 4-0 visiting lead.
Hollingsworth led off the top of the second with a two-bagger, before
Hannah Williams connected for a two-run homer for a 6-0 score.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (14-18/8-14 California Collegiate Athletic Association) received a two-run homer from Madison Murphy to cut the score to 6-2.

The Toros added a second two-run homer in the sixth, before
Katie Obbema (13-5) retired the home team in order in the bottom of the seventh for the 7-4 final.
Obbema allowed only four hits in the seven-inning complete game with three strikeouts.
Game 2
For the second time, the second inning was the key frame to get the HSU offensive attack going.
Randall and Fox lined back-to-back leadoff singles. Pena plated both runners on her second home run of the day, a three-run dinger, to open a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Hollingsworth singled home
Darian Harris, who had a leadoff double, to make it 4-0.
The Jacks added another pair of scores in the fourth. With one out,
Tonya Walker was hit by a pitch, stole second and moved to third on a Harris ground out. Hollingsworth drove her home on a double, before running home herself on a
Hannah Williams run-scoring hit and 6-0 advantage.
The Toros loaded the bases with two outs and scored their only run on a Jacks error in the home fifth.
In the top of the sixth, Hollingsworth produced her sixth hit of the day and second home run, a solo variety, to answer the home tally.
HSU would receive a final pair of runs to start the seventh inning on leadoff back-to-back solo homers by Randall and Fox for a 9-1 score.
Madison Williams closed the door by fanning the Cal State Dominguez Hills' side to end the game.
Perez gave up only three hits to the Toros over six innings without an earned run and four strikeouts.
Hollingsworth went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one home run and three RBIs.
