ARCATA, Calif. -- Former Humboldt State head football coach Mike Dolby passed away last weekend. He was 75 years old.
Dolby led the Lumberjack football program for five seasons (1986-90) and compiled a 17-34-2 record.
Dolby's teams were known for high-powered passing offense.
Various nicknames from his era include: "Dolby System," "Air Dolby" and "Jack Attack." The Jacks passed for 2,728 yards in 1987 during Dolby's tenure to set the school record, and it still stands as the third highest total in HSU history. At one point, Dolby's teams had the four top all-time totals for passing yards in a season.
Humboldt State was one of many coaching stops for Dolby during a long career in college athletics. He also spent time at his alma mater Oregon State University, San Jose State University, Northern Arizona University and University of Nevada Reno.
Dolby's funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. PT on Friday, September 5.
