Braxton Griffin provided the Lumberjacks (3-1) scoring and goalie
Javier Torres made a key save to seal the win over the Urban Knights (1-3).
"The guys did a great job fighting through the heat today and finding a way to get the job done," said Head Coach
Fred Jungemann. "We played a strong first half and managed the game well in the second to hang on for the win. We are yet to hit our full stride, but we are progressing every game."
At 17:05, Pitts went one-on-one and fired a short goal kick off the far post for the game's opening score. Twenty minutes later, Griffin made the most of his penalty kick attempt to increase the HSU lead to 2-0.
Academy of Art goalie Alejandro Escobedo saved HSU's other two first half shots on goal both by
Alan Castillo.
The Urban Knights' Jake Walter cut the margin to 2-1 by drilling a shot high at 51:12. Walter tried to tie the game in the 82
nd minute, but Torres made his lone save of the day to preserve the Jacks' win.
"We are off to a great start though this season, and looking forward to playing in front of our home fans this coming weekend," said Jungemann. HSU will open its home schedule on Thursday afternoon in the Lumberjack Classic against Holy Names in a 4 p.m. match.
