FULL GAME NOTES

ARCATA, Calif. – With a fourth successful California Collegiate Athletic Association weekend in the books, Humboldt State returns home to Lumberjack Arena this weekend.

The Lumberjacks host league-members Cal State East Bay Thursday, Jan. 15, and Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday, Jan. 17. Both games tip at 5:30 p.m.

After completing the first road trip of 2015, HSU ran its winning run to 11 games with victories at Chico State (89-85) and Cal State Stanislaus (85-71).

"It was a huge win at Chico the first night. They played great," said HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason. "We were fortunately able to answer as they (Chico State) came out on fire.  Jae (Shin) kept us in the first half by hitting five 3-pointers. It was a great college basketball game with a lot of plays being made down the stretch on both sides."

In Gleason's 11 years, her team's current 11-game win streak is the longest of her tenure.  With last Saturday's win at Cal State Stanislaus, the current winning run broke the previous 10-game streak set in the 2008-09 season.

Boasting the CCAA's top offense, HSU has been able to spread out the scoring load.

"There is not enough attention being placed on Kersey Wilcox (regarding the team's balanced scoring). She makes the right read and finds the open player almost every time. Kersey is our quarterback," said Gleason.

WINNERS OF LAST 12 CCAA MATCHUPS
Dating back to the last two 2013-14 league weekends, the Jacks won their last 12 CCAA matchups.

In the end of last season, HSU won its last four conference games – at home over Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills and at Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus. The Jacks claimed their first eight CCAA games to begin this season to make it 12 wins in a row.

The HSU program's longest CCAA win streak was 15 games  – the final eight games of 2008-09 and the first seven games of 2009-10.

GLEASON'S BEST START CONTINUED
With last weekend's pair of victories, HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason has her team off to its best start in her 11 seasons leading the program with a 12-1 record.

Gleason's previous best start came three seasons ago when her 2011-12 squad started 9-1, before it fell at Cal State Los Angeles in the 12th game of that season.

EVEN SERIES RECORDS
HSU enters this weekend an even 13-13 in the last 26 games against Cal State East Bay (5-5) and Cal State Monterey Bay (8-8). The Jacks split the 2013-14 season series against both the Pioneers and Otters.

Against Cal State East Bay, HSU came up short in Hayward by a 61-44 final on Jan. 4. The Jacks came back to win the second meeting in Arcata, 71-64, on Feb. 6. Since both programs have been CCAA members, the opponents have split the 10 meetings. HSU is 3-2 in Lumberjack Arena over the last five years.

Cal State Monterey Bay will try to continue its recent success in Arcata on Saturday night. The Otters won their second time in a row, 70-63 to upset the Jacks last Feb. 3. HSU claimed a 65-51 win on Feb. 4, 2012 in its last home win. The two teams are 4-4 over the last eight years in Lumberjack Arena and 8-8 overall in the 16 meetings.

JACKS RECEIVING NATIONAL CONSIDERATION
HSU is amongst the CCAA teams receiving NCAA Division II national-ranking consideration.

The Jacks received a season-high 59 points in the Others Receiving Votes list of the USA TODAY DII Top 25 Coaches Poll last released on Jan. 13. Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Dominguez Hills were the next two CCAA rated teams with 9 points, while Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego had 6 and 5 points, respectively.

In the inaugural D2SIDA Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, HSU dropped one spot despite having an 11-game winning streak from No. 20 to No. 21 this week.

GAUMER LEADS THE ATTACK
On her best back-to-back games of the season, Dani Gaumer helped HSU extend its winning streak to 11 games last weekend.

The senior guard averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in the road victories over Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.

On Friday, Gaumer changed HSU's game fortunes at Chico State over a 1:30 time frame. With the team behind, 48-41, less than three minutes into the second half, the shooting guard downed a 3-pointer, drew a charge on defense and hit a second trey to start the Jacks' key run. She followed the second 3-pointer by stealing the ball and went coast-to-coast for a layup to surge HSU ahead, 51-50. The Jacks never trailed again, and won, 89-84.

Gaumer drained a season-high five 3-pointers in seven attempts for a team-best 17 points against Cal State Stanislaus in an 85-71 victory.

COACH GLEASON ON THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:
"Both Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay have suffered some losses here lately, but everyone seems to bring their best game for us," said Gleason. She is a really good guard and one of the best in the conference."
