ARCATA, Calif. – Following a successful opening set of home games, Humboldt State hits the road for the first time in 2015 this weekend.

The Lumberjacks begin their January California Collegiate Athletic Association road schedule at the rival Wildcats of Chico State Friday and against the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus Saturday. Both games tip at 5:30 p.m.

HSU found two different ways to win and secured its third pair of CCAA victories last week over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles. On New Year's day, the Jacks scored the first seven points, were tied only two times and pulled out the win over the Toros, 77-70. After trailing by 15 points early in the second half, HSU produced a furious comeback and it raced past Cal State Los Angeles, 81-67.

"Any win is great especially against some good teams. We won those games in different ways," said HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason. "I thought the team really showed some resiliency, especially on Saturday, when we were down for most of the game and we showed some resolve in the game to come back."

With the two victories, HSU improved to 6-0 in the league and has the CCAA's top spot all to itself.  The HSU sweep took the team's overall record to a conference-best 10-1 mark and it extended its winning run to nine games.

In Head Coach Joddie Gleason's 11 years, her team's current nine-game win streak ranks as the second longest of her tenure. The current winning run is the longest since the 2008-09 squad ran off 10 in a row from Feb. 6 to Mar. 6, 2009.

"We do stress we are going to get everyone's best shot. We talk about how we have that target on our back now," said Gleason. "We will get everyone's A-game and we will have to bring it. The conference comes down to who can bring it every night."

Dating back to the last two 2013-14 league weekends, the Jacks have won their last 10 CCAA matchups.

In the end of last season, HSU won its last four conference games – at home over Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills and at Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus (this weekend's road trip). The Jacks claimed their first six CCAA games to begin this season to make it 10 wins in a row.

The HSU program's longest CCAA win streak was 15 games  – the final eight games of 2008-09 and the first seven games of 2009-10.

GLEASON'S BEST START
With last Saturday's win over Cal State Los Angeles, HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason has her team off to its best start in her 11 seasons leading the program with a 10-1 record.

Gleason's previous best start came three seasons ago when her 2011-12 squad started 9-1, before it fell at Cal State Los Angeles in the 12th game of that season.

CONTRAST OF ROAD FORTUNES
Over the past eight seasons, HSU has recorded different results in the Chico State/Cal State Stanislaus road trip. As a whole, the Jacks are 7-9 playing in the Wildcats and Warriors' home courts.

Last Feb. 28, HSU snapped its long-running losing streak in Chico. The Jacks defeated the Wildcats, 66-50, for not only coach Gleason's first win in 11 tries in Acker Gym, but it was the program's first win in 17 games there. Chico State holds a 7-1 home advantage and 13-6 overall lead in the series history over HSU since both have been league members.

"Any game between Chico and Humboldt is always intense and a big rivalry game. They had our number over there and we were happy to get the game last year and get that first win and hopefully continue on this year," said Gleason. "We know it doesn't matter how the teams are. Every year it is a battle, it is a fight. They play very well at home."

At Turlock, HSU has enjoyed more success in Cal State Stanislaus' Fitzpatrick Arena. The Jacks are 6-2 in the arena and have won the last three including a 66-60 decision to end last season. HSU has won the last seven meetings and are 15-2 overall in eight years.

JACKS RECEIVING NATIONAL CONSIDERATION
HSU is amongst the CCAA teams receiving NCAA Division II national-ranking consideration.

The Jacks received a season-high 56 points in the Others Receiving Votes list of the USA TODAY DII Top 25 Coaches Poll last released on Jan. 6. Cal Poly Pomona was the next CCAA rated team with 29 points, while both Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State San Bernardino had 5.

In the inaugural D2SIDA Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, HSU has moved up to No. 20 after it was tied for No. 22 last week.

FOSTER NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After being a second-half force in both games last weekend, Humboldt State's A'Jaee Foster earned the CCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.

The junior from Fontana, Calif., led the CCAA-leading Jacks (10-1) as she made 14-of-21 shots for a 21.5-point average and grabbed 9.5 rebounds per night. She also posted 2.5 assists and one steal per contest.

"A'Jaee is a difference maker. She is the key difference in our first group and has come in and produced both on the glass and in the points column," said Gleason.

Against Cal State Dominguez Hills, the forward scored 14 of her 22 points and grabbed six of her nine rebounds in the game-deciding second half of the 77-70 HSU victory. She netted six of those points in the first six minutes of the second half and the other eight tallies in the final six minutes. Foster accounted for her season-high 22-point night on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 10-for-11 from the foul line.

On Saturday night, the junior led the comeback charge over Cal State Los Angeles. After trailing by 12 points at the half and by as many as 15 points in the early second half, Foster scored 19 second-period points and pulled down seven rebounds to help HSU storm back to an 81-67 win. For the game, Foster made 8-of-11 attempts for 21 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She also handed out two assists and stole one pass.

Kersey Wilcox was the first HSU CCAA Player of the Week this season for the week of Nov. 14-16.

Scouting Chico State:

Coach Gleason on Chico State – "They are pretty young, very guard-oriented team. Hannah Womack is the pivotal scorer they have with a bunch of guards, who rotate in. They are pretty balanced after her (Womack). It is very tough to stop her as she is a great 3-pt shooter and can score off the dribble.

We want to try to slow down their guard play while keeping them off the free throw line."
