Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Shoots Its Way to 115 Points, 4-0 Start

ARCATA, Calif. – There was no lag in the steps of Humboldt State's men's basketball team on this holiday weekend. The Lumberjacks (4-0) put up 115 points, including 68 in the first half, to defeat Pacific Union (4-1), 115-91.

"We're confident, we've found ourselves defensively, and we like the way we're playing," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "The key to our success right now is assist basketball. It's the one thing we really stressed pregame. It's a measurable goal, and I thought we did a great job on that."

From Malik Morgan's three-pointer to open the game through the final whistle, the Jacks never faced a deficit on Saturday night. The Green and Gold built up the lead as high as 44 points, and compiled 28 assists on 44 made baskets. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, but the Green and Gold were also 16-for-32 from long range.

Seven Lumberjacks finished with double-figure scoring, including a career 10 point and 11 rebound double-double performance by freshman Jack Kaub. Rakim Brown led the home team with 23 points, and collected six boards of his own.

"When guys are sharing the basketball and giving up good shots for great shots, then you have great teammate camaraderie," said Kinder. "I think we achieved that tonight."

Humboldt State extends its non-conference home winning streak to 23 games over the last seven seasons. The Jacks will enter conference play on Thursday at Cal State San Marcos. The Jacks will turn around and host Cal State Los Angeles on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
