Kochevar, Damron Join Football Coaching Staff

ARCATA, Calif. -- The Humboldt State football team announced the addition of Miles Kochevar and Seth Damron to its coaching staff. Kochevar will direct the Lumberjack defense and Damron will coach linebackers and special teams.

"We are very excited to add both Miles and Seth to the Lumberjack football family," said Head Coach Rob Smith. "Both are high-quality individuals, who came highly recommended. They have a connection and have known each other for several years. They bring great energy and great knowledge, and will be a great fit with our coaching staff, players and the campus community."

Kochevar brings Division I seasoning to the North Coast. He was a three-year member of Jim McElwain's staff at Colorado State and worked primarily with the safeties. Prior to working at his alma mater, Kochevar spent four seasons coaching defense at Colorado Mesa. As a member of the Maverick coaching staff, he helped the team rank fourth in the nation in total defense during the 2010 season.

"Miles played at Division I Colorado State and has coached at both Colorado-Mesa and Colorado State," said Smith. "He was part of a real turnaround at Colorado State with Jim McElwain, the new coach at Florida. The people I spoke to about Miles raved about his quality as an individual and a coach. I feel very excited about adding someone with his background."

Damron, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., joins the Green and Gold after three seasons on the Colorado Mesa coaching staff. While with the Mavericks, he was responsible for coaching the defensive line and coordinating the special teams. Damron was a two-year letterwinner at tight end for the Mavericks (2008-09).

"I first interviewed Seth Damron three years ago, but it didn't work out then," said Smith. "I told him then that I was very impressed by his interview and to stay in touch. He did, and I waited for the right situation to present itself so I could add him to our coaching staff."
