Greenhaw’s Walk-Off HR Propels Otters Past Softball Saturday

STOCKTON, Calif. – A walk-off two-run homer from Cal State Monterey Bay third baseman Alissa Greenhaw propelled the Otters past Humboldt State softball 5-3 in Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Tournament matchup at Arnaiz Stadium.

The loss moves the Lumberjacks' season record to 40-16, and HSU will face the winner of the Chico State/Sonoma State game at 5 p.m. in an elimination contest.

Madison Williams got the start for the Green and Gold, but lasted just 0.2 innings and surrendered a pair of first-inning runs to the Otters. She yielded an RBI single to CCAA Player of the Year Cori Reinhardt and issued a walk with the bases loaded to put Monterey Bay on top 2-0.

The Otters plated another run in the third versus the Jacks' Friday starter Katie Obbema, who entered in relief of Williams.  Reinhardt punched a two-out pitch into right field for an RBI double that bounced off the stadium's brick wall. An assist from right fielder Carly Perkins helped the Green and Gold get Reinhardt who rounded second for third base and end the inning.

After tossing 191 pitches in Friday's 10-inning victory over Chico State, Reinhardt did not make the start, and the Otters went with Lindsay Clarkson in the circle. Clarkson handcuffed the Jacks' potent batters and limited the Green and Gold lineup to four hits and three runs.

HSU scored its first run of the game in the fifth frame after being held hitless the previous four innings. The Jacks put runners on first and second after a pair of walks to begin the fourth. An Alison McKibbon single loaded the bases, and Perkins drove home pinch runner Amber Rose the next at-bat. A poor base running decision on the Perkins' single cost the Jacks an out and limited them in a potentially big inning.

A two-run seventh put the Jacks back into the game and knotted the score at 3-3. Alison McKibbon crushed a solo home run to trim the Otter lead to one, 3-2, and Darian Harris lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to even the score.

Greenhaw's one-out long ball scored two and clinched the win for Monterey Bay. The Otter leadoff batter led all hitters with three base knocks and two extra-base hits.

Despite not starting the game, Rhinehardt picked up her 29th victory of the season and relieved Clarkson in the seventh. She faced two batters and did not allow a hit.

Obbema took the loss for the Jacks – her ninth of the season. She logged 5.2 innings, allowed three earned runs, five hits and struck out one.

The Jacks' offense started slowly but was aided by multi-hit performances from McKibbon and Perkins.
