Women’s Basketball Hosts Holy Names Tuesday

ARCATA, Calif. –Humboldt State women's basketball wraps up its opening homestand of the 2016-17 schedule when it hosts Holy Names Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m.
 
The Lumberjacks (0-4) dropped their California Collegiate Athletic Association opener against Cal State San Marcos 65-51 before falling to No. 2 ranked California Baptist 93-59 Saturday.
 
"I thought our girls showed great effort and played hard on Saturday," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We made some mistakes on both ends of the floor, and it's just a matter being more efficient on both ends of the floor."
 
Holy Names enters the game with a record of 0-3 following an 81-73 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay. The Hawks are finding success on the glass and are outrebounding opponents by an average of 5.3 boards per game. Tatiana Howard leads the Hawks' rebounding effort with 7.7 per game.
 
"We've put a lot of emphasis on two or three things on both ends of the floor," said Bento-Jackson. "The girls are recognizing these things, and I think they will be ready for Tuesday."
 
The Jacks travel to the Bay Area for Cal State East Bay's Thanksgiving Shootout. HSU will play Academy of Art Saturday, Nov. 26 and Dominican Sunday, Nov. 27 at Pioneer Gymnasium. Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
"Playing back-to-back games is always a challenge, especially when we have a couple of players out," said Bento-Jackson.  "We're not as deep on the perimeter, but we played back-to-back in Seattle so we will be ready."
 
Academy of Art enters the week with a record of 0-3 after a 67-61 loss against Stanislaus State. The Urban Knights have a pair of players averaging double-figure scoring totals. Rodericka Ware is Academy of Art's top scorer with 16 points per game, and Helena Orts is averaging 10 points.
 
Dominican enters the week with a record of 2-1 following a 77-56 win against San Francisco State. The Penguins are averaging 11.7 steals per game and are led by Carly Holboke, Vanessa Cruz and Taylor Donnot who have each recorded five.

The Jacks continue their current road trip and return to CCAA action when they travel to Cal State Los Angeles for a Friday, Dec. 2 game. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
