ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's basketball fell to Cal State Monterey Bay 66-47 Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena.
The Otters (4-9, 1-5 CCAA) outshot and outrebounded the home team as the Jacks (2-11, 1-5 CCAA) lost their fourth straight game.
"I am embarrassed. I did not like our performance tonight in many different areas," said Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. "As much as we had some positives and negatives in last night's game, I definitely thought we took a step backwards tonight. Being able to sustain certain things from one game to the next is obviously something that is a major challenge for us at this moment."
For the second night in a row the Green and Gold got off to a slow start on the offensive end. HSU shot 28.6 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 34-23 at the half.
Cal State Monterey Bay dominated the glass in the first 20 minutes and outrebounded HSU 27-10.
The Jacks found success attacking the basket in the third quarter and outscored the Otters 13-12.
Tyra Turner scored all four of her second half points in the period.
A 3-pointer by Victoria Dorn put the Otters up by a game-high 20 points with 34 seconds left in regulation. Cal State Monterey Bay outscored HSU 20-11 in the final 10 minutes to close out the game.
Three Jacks scored in double figures, including Turner (12),
Ashlynn Cox (11) and
Kindall Murie (10). Cox led the Green and Gold with seven rebounds and three assists.
McKenna Hill was the Otters' top scorer with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
Cal State Monterey Bay scored 38 of its points in the paint, and the Otters outrebounded the Jacks 47-26.
HSU travels to face San Francisco State on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
