TURLOCK, Calif. – Humboldt State allowed a season-high 93 points and committed 27 turnovers on Friday night in a 28-point loss to Stanislaus State. The Warriors (15-8, 11-6) capitalized on 57.1 percent (12-for-21) shooting from long range to defeat the Lumberjacks (12-13, 9-9), 93-65.
"Turnovers definitely cost us the game," said Head Coach
Joddie Gleason. "They scored 45 points off of turnovers, it was unbelievable. Stanislaus was definitely the better team tonight and played with the urgency that is necessary this time of the year when the season is on the line."
Stanislaus State opened the game with a personal 7-0 run by Alysa Valentine to put the Jacks in an early hole. The Green and Gold responded with a 14-3 run of their own, capped by
Teylor McMiller's layup with 3:30 remaining in the quarter.
The Warriors totaled a 17-0 run between the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters. The home team continued to push its lead, until
Kindall Murie provided a rare HSU moment with a made 3-pointer to end the half.
A'Jaee Foster shot 4-of-5 from the field and led all scorers at intermission with 14 points in her 12 minutes.
Stanislaus State extended its lead in the third and fourth quarters, pushing it to as high as 35, before eventually closing out the game.
The Warriors scored 45 points off turnovers, compared to nine for the Jacks.
Eleven different Lumberjacks scored on Friday, with Foster (14),
Kiana Brown (11), and
Kelci Haueter (10) finishing with double-digit points. Haueter's 10 points matched her season-high, which she set the first time these two teams met earlier this season.
"We need to put tonight behind us and prepare for a tough one at Chico tomorrow," said Gleason.
Humboldt State will return to the hardwood Saturday night with a rivalry matchup at Chico State. The Wildcats will be recognizing their seniors' final home game and tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
