ST. GEORGE, Utah – Humboldt State softball earned a 4-1 win on the final day of the competitive Dixie State Tournament. The Lumberjacks (5-1-1) defeated Colorado State – Pueblo (0-5) for the second time in the tournament.
"We went to the tournament to see good competition and that is what happened," said Head Coach
Shelli Sarchett. "The only way to prepare for a league schedule like ours is to play good teams and put ourselves in situations that are going to make us better, win or lose."
The Jacks got out to a quick start on Sunday morning, putting three runs on the board in the first inning.
Breonna Bejaran started it off with a 2 RBI single, then
Darian Harris doubled in the third run.
The Thunderwolves answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning. It was the only run allowed in the complete game outing by HSU's
Kalyn Paque.
The Green and Gold added an additional run in the second, when
Illa Haley batted in
Kelly Sonnemann.
The Jacks begin CCAA play next, traveling to Cal State Monterey Bay for four games between Feb. 12 and 13.
