ARCATA, Calif. – No. 3-ranked Humboldt State softball extended its winning streak to 14 straight Tuesday as it completed its series sweep of Sonoma State. The Lumberjacks edged the Seawolves 4-1 in the early game and defeated the visitors 9-1 in five innings for the finale.

The Jacks improved their record to 28-2 against California Collegiate Athletic Association competition and 39-3-1 overall. HSU trimmed its magic number to clinch the 2016 conference title to two with Tuesday's results.
A weekend trip to the Bay Area will pit HSU versus SF State. The Gators slipped into the conference tournament picture again because of the Seawolves' slide, and they currently rank fourth in the CCAA standings. The Jacks will begin their four-game series with SF State Friday, April 15, at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE
(Humboldt State 4, Sonoma State 1)
A four-run third inning provided all the scoring the Jacks needed in the first game of the afternoon. Three consecutive walks after a fielding miscue gave HSU a 1-0 lead with one out.
Breonna Bejaran struck a two-run single to left centerfield, and an
Illa Haley single increased the lead to 4-0.
Haley finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
Katie Obbema tossed her 16
th complete game of the season and picked up her 18
th victory. The senior allowed just five hits and one run in the seventh inning. She fanned five Seawolves without issuing a walk.
GAME TWO
(Humboldt State 9, Sonoma State 1)
Tiffany Hollingsworth opened the finale with one of her two home runs on the day. She crushed a 3-2 pitch to centerfield and gave the Jacks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The San Leandro, Calif., product added another two-run bomb in the third to give HSU a 4-1 advantage.
The Seawolves only run came on a ball off the bat of Kristine Ricossa that looked to be a ground rule double, but was ruled a home run by the umpire in the second inning.
Hanna Holland hit a two-out RBI double in the fourth to increase the Jacks' lead to 6-1.
HSU added three more runs to close the game in the fifth.
Sydney Roberts and
Cyndi Chavez were both hit by Amanda Llerena pitches with the bases loaded to put the Green and Gold up 8-1. Holland ended the game when she slapped a bases-loaded RBI single through the left side.
Madison Williams recorded seven strikeouts and scattered four hits over 5.0 innings. The Brentwood, Calif., native captured her team-leading 19
th win of the season.
