CARSON, Calif. – Humboldt State Volleyball had two matches scheduled Friday in the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase. In the morning match, the Jacks split the first two sets with Azusa Pacific (2-4) before ultimately falling to the PacWest school in four games (25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 25-14).

"Today we made a few small improvements but we continue to struggle with our consistency," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "We're taking too long to get going in the start of each set and we're having to dig ourselves out of a hole too often."
 
After Azusa Pacific took the first set, the Green and Gold answered in the second despite falling behind 12-7. With Katherine Rifilato serving, the Jacks strung together four straight points to tie it at 13 apiece. The game remained tight, with tie scores occurring at 14, 16, 17, and 18 all, before the Jacks benefited from consecutive kills from Jadira Espindola, Rifilato, and Symone Hayden to give the 20-18 edge to HSU. The lead remained intact and the Jacks closed out the set 25-21.
 
Despite the games being even at the break, Humboldt could not find an answer after intermission and dropped the next two sets.
 
"The team is remaining focused and we will be ready for tonight's match versus Montana State Billings," said Wood.
 
HSU will take on the Yellowjackets at 5 p.m.
