ARCATA, Calif. – Fresh off back-to-back road victories, Humboldt State women's basketball travels to face Cal State San Marcos Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Lumberjacks overcame a nine-point halftime deficit en route to a 79-65 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills last weekend. Tyra Turner led the Green and Gold to their best offensive performance of the season with 25 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds. HSU is averaging 61.8 points per game over the last five games.

San Marcos lost to Cal Poly Pomona Thursday in The Sports Center. Savannah Camp is the Cougars' top offensive playmaker with 11.9 points per game. She led all scorers with 19 points in the early season meeting with the Jacks.

SERIES BREAKDOWN
The all-time series is knotted at 2-2 following a San Marcos win on Nov. 17. The Jacks defeated the Cougars 69-52 on the road last season.

COACHES CORNER
On Cal State San Marcos
"We are very familiar with them from a personnel standpoint and their style of play," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We feel like we are prepared as far as what to expect of them, but the most important thing is executing our defensive plan heading into the game."

On the Jacks' Defensive Improvement
"The girls have a much better understanding of the importance of scout and that one defensive mistake can cause a complete team defensive breakdown that results in an opponent's scoring opportunity. I think it has been a learning process and they are learning the importance of every single possession."

On the Jacks' Offensive Improvement
"The last game against Dominguez Hills we had a number of different people stepping up offensively," said Bento-Jackson. "Throughout the season it has been hit or miss, it has been somebody else (contributing) each game, which isn't a bad thing. We are much more of scoring threat when we have a number of different people that can knock down some shots for us."

On Freshman Tyra Turner
"I have been coaching for a long time, and I can say that the growth, the maturity and progress she has made in a short amount of time is tremendous. I think she has been a sponge as far as being receptive to my coaching and understanding system. She has a long way to go, but she is doing a lot of great things for us on both ends of the floor."
