ARCATA, Calif. – Following a dramatic come-from-behind victory against San Francisco State, Humboldt State women's basketball visits Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
HSU overcame a 17-point halftime deficit in Tuesday's 52-48 road win over SF State.
Lynnzy Troxell led the way for the Jacks and scored 12 of her career-high 14 points in the second half against the Gators. Halftime adjustments sparked an offensive improvement for the North Coast team, which saw its shooting percentage jump from 33.3 percent in the opening half to 55.6 percent in the second half.
The Toros are 0-4 at home this season and have lost three of those four games by 10 or more points. Dominguez Hills let a five-point halftime advantage slip away in Thursday night's 67-60 home loss to Cal Poly Pomona. Senior Imari Brown had a team-high 17 points, and she is averaging a team-best 16.1 points per game.
SERIES BREAKDOWN
The Jacks have a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series with Dominguez Hills, but HSU has not won in the Torodome since the 2011-12 season. The Toros earned a 75-61 victory in last season's meeting.
COACHES CORNER
On the SF State result
"It was a game of two totally different halves, that's for sure," said Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. "The second half we made some changes at halftime and did some things in the second half we hadn't done all year. The girls responded very well. I learned some things about our team against San Francisco State and things we can use for the future."
On Dominguez Hills
"We are going to have our hands full. They have a lot of weapons and run a lot dribble-drive offense," said Bento-Jackson. "Their leading scorer Imari Brown can do a lot of things and the people around her can also contribute. Dominguez Hills likes to get up and down the floor, and we are going to have to rely on our transition defense."
On preparing the team during a long road trip
"I always like to be on the road," said Bento-Jackson. "I feel like it keeps the team more focused, between film sessions and practicing every day. I think we are getting better this week as a team whether we are practicing or watching film."
