Coyotes Defeat Volleyball in Straight Sets

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State volleyball was unable to stop Cal State San Bernardino's impressive offensive performance in Friday's 3-0 loss in Lumberjack Arena.

The Coyotes improved to 18-7 overall and 14-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with the win, while the Jacks fell to 3-20 and 2-15 in conference play.

San Bernardino dominated the first set (25-11) and compiled a .548 hitting percentage. The Coyotes ended the frame on a 9-0 run and scored 13 of the final 16 points. Lauren Reid finished the set with a team-high five kills for the Jacks.

Once again long runs kept HSU from gaining momentum in the second frame, a 25-18 win for San Bernardino. Consecutive errors by the Coyotes pulled the Green and Gold within one, 7-6, before the visitors rattled off eight straight points to take a commanding 15-6 lead en route to the set victory.

The third set was all Coyotes as the visitors jumped out 9-1 before winning the frame 25-11. HSU compiled a .000 hitting percentage, and Reid and Anita Eichenour combined for six of the team's seven kills.

Reid finished the match with a team-high 10 kills.

HSU hosts Cal Poly Pomona in Saturday's season finale. The Jacks' six seniors will be recognized during a pre-match ceremony. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
