Women’s Basketball Drops Season Opener to Seattle Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. –  Seattle Pacific limited Humboldt State women's basketball to 26 percent shooting in Friday's 69-49 loss. The game was played at the Special Events Center on the Fresno Pacific campus as part of the West Region Crossover Classic.

Offense was in short supply in the first period, and the Falcons held a 20-13 advantage through 10 minutes and a 10-point lead at intermission. Seattle Pacific cashed in on its opportunities at the charity stripe to gain the upper hand, connecting on 18-of-19 chances (94.7 percent). HSU shot 34.6 percent from the field (9-of-26), and Kindall Murie scored a team-high seven points in the first half.

Tyla Turner provided a much-needed spark off the bench late in the third quarter, but her six second half points and five boards weren't enough to overcome Seattle Pacific. The Falcons punctuated their victory with a 13-0 run to end the game. HSU couldn't find an offensive answer to their PacWest opponent and shot 16.7 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes.

Turner finished her Jacks regular-season debut one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. She scored eight of her 10 points at the free-throw line. Murie led all HSU scorers with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting.

Four Falcons reached double-figure scoring totals, and Seattle Pacific outrebounded HSU 45-26.

The Jacks face Western Washington Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
