Women’s Basketball Hosts Notre Dame de Namur Wednesday

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's basketball team returns home this week and plays host to Notre Dame de Namur Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Jacks are coming off a weekend trip to Fresno during which they dropped two games against quality West Region competition at the West Region Crossover Classic, falling to Seattle Pacific on Friday 69-49 and Western Washington Saturday 54-50.

"We were really like two different teams from the first night to the second night," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "The first night I didn't feel like we played well on either end of the floor. We didn't execute well, and on the defensive end, we just didn't have the intensity and efficiency that we typically have. So obviously, Saturday night we wanted to fix that on the defensive end, but on Saturday night we shot very poorly. However, it did show our defensive intensity, and I thought we played much more physical and played really tough."

The coach referred to the biggest "learning lesson" for her team on the weekend being the idea that you never know how well you're going to shoot the ball, so you must rely on your defense.

Kindall Murie had 13 points against the Falcons, while Jovanah Arrington contributed 13 points and Tyla Turner finished with 11 points and six rebounds versus the Vikings.

The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts enter Wednesday's game having dispatched Chico State 82-80 in their most recent contest. The matchup with Notre Dame de Namur is the Jacks' final tune-up before Chico comes to town on Saturday for a rivalry game at 5:30 p.m., which will be streamed live on ESPN3.

"I constantly preach to the team on a daily basis that it doesn't matter who the opponent is," said Bento-Jackson. "We have to come out and be prepared mentally a certain way, and that way is to be focused and come out with a lot of energy. If we do that, I like our chances no matter who the opponent is."

That said, Bento-Jackson acknowledged that the Argonauts are coming off a big victory, and said this current four-games-in-seven-days stretch will test her team, which has to focus on one game at a time.

Bento-Jackson said her team will not start preparation for the Chico game until Thursday, keeping her squad's focus squarely on the task at hand.
