Volleyball Faces Difficult Road Slate this Weekend

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball squad's stamina will be tested this week, as they take to the road in CCAA conference action for four games including two that are makeups from earlier in the season.

The Jacks will tangle with Chico State on Friday and Stanislaus State on Saturday before making their way to San Francisco State on Sunday and, finally, Sonoma State on Monday.

"We haven't experienced anything like this before," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "We have played multiple matches in fewer days, and we do that early in the year when we're rested and we're playing in the preseason tournaments, but that's all in one location while we're sleeping in one hotel." She calls this weekend a "daunting task," but said that her squad is up for it, and will make the best effort it possibly can.

Wood said that ultimately it will be a matter of game-day preparation, saying that the Jacks have played all these teams before and have them on film, which will factor into their preparation on those game days.

Asked if there was any potential for her to save players for work the next day if one contest doesn't look like it will be competitive, Wood was adamant that she would coach each match as its own, and "would never throw in the towel at any point."

"With the challenging season that we've had in terms of wins and losses," said Wood, "This has been such a resilient, mentally tough team; they come every day with such a positive attitude and high energy, and I give a lot of credit to my team for remaining so strong."

Wood says that they will open the weekend with a contest against a Chico State team that "is pretty strong offensively across the board."
