Women’s Basketball Falls in Tight Matchup With Wolves

MONMOUTH, Ore. – On the back end of a two-night trip north, the Humboldt State's women's basketball team took a late lead against host Western Oregon, but saw the home team convert a bucket with just three seconds remaining to pull out a 64-62 victory.

Isamar Conde led the Jacks with 15 points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range, and Tyla Turner chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout the first two periods, HSU took a 13-12 lead after one and Western Oregon managed a 25-24 halftime advantage. The Wolves extended their lead to 40-33 at the 4:03 mark of the third quarter, but the Jacks fought back with a 14-2 run spanning the third and fourth to establish a 52-46 lead with 7:42 left.

In the end, Western Oregon was able to chip away at HSU's margin until they forced a shot-clock violation by the Jacks inside the last minute and won it on a late layup for the 64-62 final.

Next up for the Jacks is a venture south, where they will take on Cal State San Bernardino in a 5:30 p.m. Saturday matchup in HSU's first foray into CCAA conference play since their ESPN3 showdown with rival Chico State last week.
