ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's basketball looks to build on a very positive end to a CCAA road swing as they host Stanislaus State in Lumberjack Arena on Thursday night. Tipoff at 5:30 p.m.

The team is looking to keep alive a three-game winning streak, all in CCAA conference play and all victories coming on the road.

The team dispatched Cal State Monterey Bay last Thursday in Seaside by a 64-40 final and then went on to beat Cal Poly Pomona in Pomona Saturday, 66-48. The wins improved HSU's record to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in CCAA play.

"We've been on the road quite a bit these last two or three weeks, and I talked to the team before the month of November started," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "I told them that this was going to be a really tough stretch for us from the non-conference games and quality of competition that we faced, to everything being on the road. Obviously, it required a lot of mental focus from our team and now that the stretch is over I'm just really proud of how they handled it."

Bento-Jackson praised the play of guard Tyla Turner, named the CCAA Player of the Week for her performances at Monterey Bay and Pomona. She averaged 21.5 and 8.5 boards per game on better than 50 percent shooting, and Bento-Jackson said, "She was very steady for us. Not just in the Monterey game but in the Pomona game, we really weren't getting anything going in the first half, particularly on the offensive end, and she pretty much carried us in the first half of the game."

"I think she's getting better and better at finding that balance of when she needs to be a scorer and when she needs to get her teammates involved, and that's a learning process for her. But I'm just really pleased with the energy that she brings to our team."

Stanislaus State brings in a 5-3 overall mark (2-2 conference), and is coming off a 63-60 home win Saturday against Cal State Los Angeles. Erika Larson is leading the team with 10.5 points per game and shooting at an impressive 55.9 percent clip from the floor.

Last season, the Lumberjacks fell in Turlock 54-45 in an early-season matchup before exacting a measure of revenge in late January as they beat the Warriors 73-65 at home.

"In talking to the team, I told them that I actually prefer us to be on the road," said Bento-Jackson, "Just because there's less distractions, and I think it's easier to keep the team focused. We briefly talked to the team, saying, 'Here we are at home for these four games in the month of December.' We know that there are finals coming up, and we just challenged them to be extremely focused, first coming up with Stanislaus State."

Bento-Jackson said the Warriors will present a different style of play than they've seen in conference thus far, but that "we've got to be ready for that challenge come Thursday night."
