Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif.- Humboldt State softball earned a split in day one of the Tournament of Champions as it defeated Hawaii Pacific 5-4 and fell to St. Martins 7-2. With the split HSU moves to 22-5 on the season, remaining 14-4 in CCAA play.
HSU fell behind early to HPU in game one when the Sharks scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning. HPU struck again in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by freshmen Emilee Leonard. The Lumberjacks entered the top of the seventh inning trailing 4-0.
The Green and Gold rallied to load the bases with one out then scored twice taking advantage of back to back errors by HPU.
Kelly Sonnemann, the next batter up was hit by the pitch, giving the Jacks its third run of the inning.
Sydney Roberts finished HSU's rally on a 2rbi single giving the Jacks a 5-4 lead.Â
Madison Williams finished the game for the Jacks picking up her second save of the season.
Jasmine Hill picked up the win for HSU, her first of the season.Â
Game two saw HSU strike first on a two-run home run by
Winona Vigil in the bottom of the third inning. The Jacks wouldn't lead for long as St Martins was able to score five runs in the top of the fifth helped by miscues on defense by HSU. St Martins added a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings making it 7 unanswered run as they went on to take the game 7-2.
HSU is back in action tomorrow morning when they take on Hawaii Hilo at 9 a.m.
