Men’s Soccer Falls in Cavalier Classic Opener

PORTLAND, Ore. – In its first outing of the year at the Cavalier Classic, the Humboldt State men's soccer team out-cornered Concordia University, seven to six, but nonetheless found itself on the wrong side of the score ledger 2-0.

The home team tallied its first goal at the 35:25 mark of the first half when Kieran McMinnn found the back of the net off an assist from Nick Evans. The Cavaliers got their goal when Reggie Reyes scored unassisted at 78:05 in the second half. HSU goalie Chris Cherms managed five saves in the game. While Concordia outshot Humboldt 19-11, Isaiah Dairo was an attacking force for the Jacks, notching three shots and two shots on goal. Marco Silveira added three shots, two on goal, off the bench.

"Today was a difficult and frustrating game that could easily have gone either way," said HSU Head Coach Fred Jungemann. "Our guys played hard and were unlucky at both ends of the field. We had seven players make their NCAA debuts today and all did very well. We will learn from the mistakes we made today and come out with an improved performance on Saturday."

The Jacks return to action against Saint Martin's at 4 p.m. on Saturday in another Cavalier Classic contest.
