Women’s Basketball Falls in Tough Outing Versus Pomona

ARCATA, Calif. – Done in by a subpar shooting night from the field, the Humboldt State's women's basketball team fell at home to Cal Poly Pomona, 70-57, on Thursday night in Lumberjack Arena.

The loss makes the Jacks 8-8 overall and 7-4 in CCAA play, and the Broncos moved to 11-4 (8-2 CCAA).

Tyla Turner led the home squad with 17 points and five rebounds, while Kindall Murie contributed 14 points and hit four 3-pointers.

"We got out-toughed tonight in the paint in a couple different ways and didn't get productivity from too many individuals," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We must now get ready for San Bernardino."

It was tough sledding for HSU offensively, as the Jacks hit on just 35.6 percent of their field goals. They held the Broncos to just 42.4 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers, but could never establish themselves on the offensive end.

Pomona jumped out to a 21-15 lead after one quarter, and continued to build on its advantage with a 16-12 second period. HSU outscored the Broncos 14-12 in the third and cut what was a 15-point deficit to seven at the conclusion of the quarter. But the Jacks saw the Broncos win the fourth, 21-15 once again.

HSU will try to right the ship on Saturday night against Cal State San Bernardino with a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
