Men’s Basketball Falls in Road Game Versus UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Four members of the Humboldt State men's basketball team reached double-digit scoring totals in Friday night's tilt at UC San Diego, but the Jacks couldn't overcome the home team's hot shooting, falling 83-73.

HSU had won a pair of conference games before the loss, which runs the team's record to 5-10 (2-7 CCAA), while the Tritons climb to 9-5 (6-2 CCAA).

The Jacks shot the ball at a stellar 48.3 percent for the game, but the Tritons managed a 55.6 clip and hit 12-of-25 attempts from 3-point range. Three different Tritons finished with at least four treys.

HSU, left with just nine healthy players due to a rash of injuries, fought valiantly, finding themselves down just 37-33 at the conclusion of the first half. The visitors consistently maintained slim leads in the first half before UC San Diego went on a 10-4 run to close it out. Romario Wilson's jumper gave the Jacks their final lead at 29-27.

In the second half, the home team increased its lead, and despite reaching the 40-point mark, the Jacks saw themselves outscored by six. HSU won the battle of the boards in the game, outrebounding the Tritons 32-31, while committing just seven turnovers.

Kameron Curl led HSU scorers with 18 points and contributed five rebounds, while Davasyia Hagger had 16 points and five boards. Jalen Terry hit 4-of-7 long range attempts and accumulated 12 points, and Wilson chipped in 11. Justin Everett led the squad with seven rebounds.

The Jacks will now turn their attention to Saturday night's opponent, Cal State San Marcos, as they travel to the Cougars' den for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
