Men’s Soccer Closes Out Season With CCAA Homestand

| By:
ARCATA, Calif.  – The Humboldt State men's soccer team looks to complete its season with two home victories as it hosts Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday at 3 p.m. followed by Cal State East Bay on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Saturday will be Senior Day, and the senior class will be recognized during pregame festivities.

"It is hard to believe the season is already winding down," said HSU Head Coach Fred Jungemann. "It feels like we just started the other day. We started out the season with a lot of optimism, but things just didn't click for us in conference. We had some really good performances against some of the better teams in the CCAA, we just weren't able to match the performance and the result."

Saturday's big win against Sonoma State (2-10-3) boosted HSU's confidence heading into its final two games. The 4-2 victory over the Seawolves in a well-rounded game.

Monterey Bay sits at 7-7 following a 4-1 win over Cal State San Bernardino. The Otters' Walmer Martinez is on the CCAA leaderboard with 38 shot attempts, two ahead of Humboldt's Gus Baxter with 36 while both playing in 14 games. Last season, HSU earned a 1-0 win over Monterey Bay. The Jacks hold a 7-9-2 all time record versus the Otters.

Sunday's Senior Day game against Cal State East Bay comes after the Pioneers took a 3-0 loss from Cal Poly Pomona. East Bay faced the Broncos on their Senior Day in Hayward, Calif., and slipped to 3-11-1. The team travels to Sonoma State on Thursday before heading up to the North Coast. The Jacks faced East Bay in 2017, resulting in a 2-1 win for the Green and Gold.

"Senior day is always emotional, as it is hard saying goodbye to our teammates," said Jungemann. "Our five seniors have played a big part of our team this season and the past five years. It is hard to imagine this program without them."
