Volleyball Travels to Bay Area for Weekend Matches

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team will travel to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco State on Friday and Cal State East Bay on Saturday. Friday's match versus the Gators is set to start at 7 p.m., while Saturday's match at East Bay is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Jacks are coming off a loss to Stanislaus State, bringing their record to 3-12 overall.

"Saturday's match was really disappointing," said HSU Head Coach Kelly Wood. "We had it in the bag and couldn't finish. The girls are definitely still fired up. San Francisco is a much-improved team from last season. They are athletic, they are tall and they run a fast tempo, but they have areas that we can exploit. It's like last week, they had areas that we exploited but we couldn't finish. San Francisco is a team on the rise."

The Jacks lost a pair of home games this past weekend to Chico State (11-7) and Stanislaus (12-5) state. In last Friday's matchup against Chico State, the home team fell in three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-18). Despite delivering a close battle to Stanislaus on Saturday, the match ended in three (25-23, 25-22, 25-16).

"They are refusing to give up. They are determined, they see where we are making progress and they see where we want to improve," said Coach Wood.

San Francisco State stands at 8-7 as they prepare to meet the Jacks. The Gators lost to East Bay in three (26-24, 25-16, 26-24) last Saturday. The Jacks faced San Francisco State twice during the 2017 season and split the meetups with a 3-1 win followed by a 3-1 loss.

East Bay is currently 9-8 overall, and the Pioneers are on a four-game winning streak with a recent 3-2 victory over Chico State. HSU delivered a win and a loss against the Pioneers in 2017, losing in five followed by a win in four two weeks later.
