ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State men's basketball team will face its fifth opponent in the last seven days as it travels to take on the Sonoma Seawolves in Friday's conference opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

"We've traveled 9,000 miles in 18 days, repacked our bags and headed out on our fourth trip, but this time it's for conference play," said HSU Head Coach Steve Kinder. "We have been focusing on improvement. We are certainly battle tested and continue to learn how to play as a team each time out against our opponents. The CCAA schedule is a marathon. We are excited about our first three games on the road, however, we are looking forward to coming home in December."

The Green and Gold are back in the country after four games in Burnaby, B.C. HSU came away from the four-game stretch with a split with back-to-back losses against West Region competition and a pair of wins against Canadian opposition. The Lumberjacks (3-2) saw a pair of halftime leads disappear in losses to host Simon Fraser and Western Washington and ended the road trip with 100-point scoring performances and wins versus Douglas College and Capilano University.

Head Coach Steve Kinder's squad has been tested early with three exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents. Kinder hopes those games and the team's trip north will be enough to help his team prepare for the rigors of its California Collegiate Athletic Association slate.

Sonoma State has a 2-2 record and captured a home win over Notre Dame de Namur, 65-55, its last time out. The Seawolves have leaned on New Zealand native Isaac Davidson, their top scorer in three of four games, who is averaging 18.8 points per game.

HSU leads the all-time series with a 51-42 record against its NorCal neighbors. The Seawolves have won the last three meetings.
