ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's basketball opens its California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule on the road against Sonoma State Friday at 5:30 p.m.

"We are excited to begin conference play," said HSU Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We feel we had a competitive non-conference schedule, and the hope is that it has prepared us for a challenging CCAA schedule. We begin on the road at Sonoma State, and we know that we must be efficient on both ends of the floor to give us a chance to win the game."

The Lumberjacks (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday night at home versus Concordia (Ore.). HSU played from behind for the first three quarters, took a lead with 20 seconds to play and lost after a pair of Cavalier free throws with 11 seconds remaining. Isamar Conde scored a team-high 26 points and swiped three steals in the non-conference nailbiter.

HSU split last season's series with Sonoma State with each team winning its home game. The Jacks have a 38-40 record all-time versus the Seawolves.

Sonoma State is off to a 2-1 start and picked up a win over Point Loma, 59-51, last Saturday. The Seawolves' defense was on display against the Sea Lions as they were limited to 26.9 percent shooting from the field and committed 21 turnovers. Junior Sophie Northern, a Fortuna, Calif., native scored a team-leading 14 points in the win.
