ARCATA, Calif. — With finals week in full swing, the Humboldt State men's basketball team will step away from the books as the Lumberjacks prepare for a heated rivalry game with Chico State Saturday, Dec. 15 in Lumberjack Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Fresh off a pair of wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Stanislaus State, the Green and Gold remain undefeated on their home court at 3-0. Senior forward Justin Everett was honored as the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals through two games. Senior point guard Kameron Curl has been averaging a team-high 2.8 assists per game while junior sharpshooter Jackson Strong leads the conference with 39 made 3-pointers.

"We are really proud of our accomplishments here this last weekend against two very good basketball teams," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "We kept our conference standings alive and are working our way up towards the top. That's our goal, and we certainly accomplished that this weekend by playing extremely well."

Chico State captured its first two wins of the season with victories over Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay. The Wildcats rely on their high-pressure defense that has held opponents to a conference-low 61.8 points per game. This will prove no easy task on Saturday as HSU boasts the CCAA's most efficient offense averaging 86.6 points per night.

"We look forward to the challenge," said Kinder. "We are playing well right now, and I think it's going to be a great matchup."

HSU has lost the last six meetings between the two teams and has not beaten the Wildcats since 2015.

"Chico is good," said Kinder "They are big and deep, and they are well coached. Their weaponry as far as ability to score might be down a little so we may take advantage of that. We will also take a look at some options on how to defend them in different ways than we have in the past. Our ability to score at home and our momentum we have going right now bode well for us."
