ARCATA, Calif. – Trailing 20 points in Saturday's come-from-behind road win over Stanislaus State, the Humboldt State men's team believed it could overcome its deficit and secure its goal. If the Lumberjacks hope to earn a postseason berth they will need more positive results when they host Cal State San Marcos and UC San Diego this weekend.

Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m. and the homestand will feature a pair of promotions. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Thursday's game in support of breast cancer awareness, and HSU will honor its senior class prior to Saturday's home finale.

HSU controls its own destiny with four games remaining in the 2017-18 regular season. With a 6-12 conference record and a three-game winning streak, the Jacks rank 11th in the standings with the top eight programs earning a trip to the CCAA tournament.

"The goal is to be playing well in late February so we can make the tournament in March," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "It has been a successful comeback from a slow start. If we win three or four we feel like we have a good chance of getting in."

This weekend's opponents won't be easy victories on paper as UCSD and San Marcos are tied for second in the CCAA with identical 13-5 marks. HSU lost to the Tritons by 10 in La Jolla and the Jacks bested San Marcos by three on the road.

"Beating San Marcos was one of our sweetest memories of the season," said Kinder. "It was a big win for us, knowing that they are playing well and are at the top of the standings. These games will be a tall order for us, but I think we are up for it. We expect a great crowd for both games this weekend and it will be a great environment."

Kameron Curl scored a team-best 20 points in 20 minutes of Saturday's win over the Warriors. Curl has sparked the HSU offense as of late averaging 15 points per game during the team's winning streak. Another big contributor for the Green and Gold has been Davasyia Hagger. Hagger has turned in two double-doubles in the last three games and continues to bring a dominating presence to the Jacks' post game.

"I have been saying all year that I think we have a team that can compete with anyone," said Curl. "We are starting to come together and play at the right time. I think we can make the conference tournament. We can do this if we believe. We can't look back at the start we had and need to focus on what we are doing well now. What we are doing is working, and we need to keep doing that and getting wins."

San Marcos boasts the CCAA's top scoring offense averaging 80.8 points per game. The Cougars dropped a pair of home games last weekend including a high-scoring, 94-88, loss to Cal Poly Pomona. Ethan Alvano, the conference scoring leader, is averaging a team-best 21.7 points per game, and he is shooting 46.9 percent from the field.

The Tritons are 9-3 on the road and they face Chico State Thursday evening. Forward Michael Shoemaker scored a career-high 19 points and helped lift UCSD to a 67-58 road win last week against San Bernardino.
