ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State softball team travels to south to face Cal State San Marcos in a four-game series beginning Friday afternoon. Game one of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The Lumberjacks came away with a two-game split last weekend versus Stanislaus State. The twinbill was played a McKinleyville High School and inclement weather in Saturday's forecast prompted an early departure for the Warriors.

Freshman pitcher Lexee Sheiring tossed a complete game in the series opener and allowed just one run on eight hits. Winona Vigil and Lona Dengler drove in the home team's only runs, while Illa Haley led the way with a pair of hits. Haley left the game late after suffering an injury running the bases.

Game two was all Warriors as the visitors from Turlock plated four runs in the first two frames against HSU starter Jasmine Hill. Hill rebounded and silenced the Stanislaus State bats for the remainder of the nightcap, but it was too late. The Jacks scored their only run on a Hanna Holland RBI single up the middle in the third.

"As a team, we were satisfied with winning the first game," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "We just didn't bring a focus or intensity into the second game, and that is something we will have to adjust in the future."

San Marcos has started the season with a 2-12 overall record and has a 1-11 mark in conference play. The Cougars ran their losing streak to nine straight following a four-game sweep at UC San Diego. As a team, San Marcos has compiled a .257 batting average and the pair of Raven LeClair (.389) and Jaqlyn Newhouser (.353) are the only Cougars batting over .300 entering this weekend's series.
