Softball Visits SF State This Weekend

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. The Humboldt State softball team travels to the Bay Area this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against San Francisco State. Friday's twinbill is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

"It's going to come down to who performs this weekend," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "We are both not having very good years, but it's going to be exciting. It's going to be a good environment, a more positive environment than it was last weekend in Monterey. We have to go out there and keep that momentum we had from Monterey and carry it through San Francisco and the rest of the season."

Last week the Lumberjacks took two on the road and split their series with Cal State Monterey Bay. Amber Orchard had two of the Jacks seven hits while Hanna Holland and Micaela Harris each drove in two runs apiece in game one on Saturday. Danica Grier hit a two-run double in the second inning and the Green and Gold held on to win game two 3-1. Sunday, with the game tied 2-2 at the top of the sixth, Grier hit a two-run homer to give the visitors the 4-2 advantage. Sam Sarmiento closed out the game and earned her first save of the season. HSU currently has a CCAA conference record of 12-10.

San Francisco enters the weekend with high hopes after winning three of their last four games against Cal State East Bay. Sophomore second baseman Michelle Castro led the way for the Gators in her game one performance scoring two runs and recording a pair of hits en route to a 3-1 victory. SF State ended the series on Saturday, outscoring the Pioneers 16-8 in the second doubleheader.

SF State is sitting at 13-14 in CCAA play and this will be the first time they have seen HSU this year. Humboldt State swept the Gators in last year's four-game series.
