Softball Hosts Seawolves and Honors Seniors in Final Homestand

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State softball will take the field versus Sonoma State and spotlight its seniors in this weekend's final set of home games hosted at the HSU Softball Field. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 10 a.m. first pitch, while Saturday's twinbill is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.

"This is a big series. We still have a shot of making the playoffs by winning all four games this weekend and hoping somebody else loses," said HSU Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "So we have to take our destiny into our own hands and do our job. Even with this being a tough season and some people think we're out of it, but we're not."

The Jacks fell to Chico State in a four-game home series last weekend. HSU fought hard but came up short, putting up a combined 23 hits as it suffered a sweep to the California Collegiate Athletic Association-leading Wildcats.

Five Lumberjack seniors look to close out their Green and Gold careers with victories in the last homestand of the season. Kelly Sonnemann, Lona Dengler, Winona Vigil, Halle Williams, and Robin Johnson will be honored prior to Saturday's game one.

"It's going to be an emotional rollercoaster to be graduating with the seniors that I played with for four years, some for less, but it was a great four years and I wouldn't take it back for the world. I will always be proud to be a lumberjack," said Sonnemann.

The Jacks go into their homestand with a 14-16 record in conference play and 19-25 overall mark. HSU will use this weekend to battle it out for one of the four spots in the CCAA Tournament, but the home team will need a sweep and a little help in order to stay in the hunt.

Sonoma State enters the series at 26-21 overall and 18-16 in conference play. The Seawolves took three of four games from the Jacks last season.
