Men’s Soccer Faces Golden Eagles and Toros this Weekend

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State men's soccer team travels to Southern California to face Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills this weekend. The Lumberjacks will open the road trip against the Golden Eagles on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Green and Gold look to follow up a pair of ties against Sonoma State and San Francisco State with their first conference victory. Gus Baxter, HSU's scoring leader with four goals, scored the Jacks only goal versus SF State. The junior put the home team on the board less than seven minutes into Sunday's draw. He also leads the Jacks with three assists.

HSU goalkeeper Bryan Hernandez has kept the team in games and has started every match. The senior faced a combined 39 shots in the last two games and has yielded just two goals. Hernandez has a 0.78 goals against average.

"Cal State LA is very good," said Head Coach Fred Jungemann. "We had a chance to watch some video on them and they are big, strong, and physical. I would expect them to be very similar to what we saw from San Francisco this past weekend. They are a very mature and aggressive attacking team, plus they are playing at home which will certainly help them out a little bit. We have some experience so far this year against difficult opponents and we've done very well. I would expect us to have a very good showing down in Southern California against two very tough teams."

Cal State LA is off to a 5-1 start overall with a 2-0 conference record. The Golden Eagles have shut out each of their opponents during their active three-game winning streak. Alexander Brems keeps goal for the Golden Eagles and ranks second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a .331 goals against average. Brems has allowed just two goals this season and LA's phenomenal defense has given opposing offenses only 27 shots.

HSU defeated LA 2-1 in last year's Senior Day game in College Creek Field. It was the Jacks first win against the Golden Eagles since 2010.

Following Friday's game, HSU will travel to Carson to take on Dominguez Hills. The Toros will face Sonoma State on Friday in the Stubhub! Center before hosting the North Coast squad at Toro Stadium. Dominguez Hills has won four consecutive meetings.
